How much does a website cost and how long does it take to create?
PIN IT FOR LATER
A very important step to consider before hiring an agency or freelancer to create your website is to think about your budget and timeline.
This article will walk you through what you can expect a website to cost, depending on who you hire (an agency or a freelancer), how complex your website is, and how the website is built.
In the second section, you will find important information regarding timelines, and a couple of examples of website projects, including their description, price and timeline.
Use the form at the end if you’d like to start your website project with us.

Please note that these are only examples of what you could find, but of course, every agency and freelancer is different, and they set their prices based on different factors, so it’s a good idea to reach out to the people you are considering to hire, and gather a couple of project proposals.
At Quaandry, our website prices vary depending on the complexity and size of your website. The cost of your website can also be affected by:
The number of page templates, and number of pages,
The complexity of the UX,
The added services you require (such as copywriting, photography, custom code, etc.),
The platform in which it is created (e.g. Squarespace, WebFlow, WordPress, Shopify, or a fully coded website).
The platform in which your website is created has a huge influence on its cost, timeline, and user-friendliness. You will often find agencies or freelancers who offer only one option (e.g. they focus only on Squarespace or only on Webflow, etc.) At Quaandry, we always diagnose our client’s needs before suggesting the platform that would be better for them and their teams. If you’d like to learn more about these platforms, we recommend the article: Squarespace vs. WordPress vs. WebFlow.
Knowing your timeline is also important, and might affect your budget or the availability of good designers. Some designers and agencies are booked months in advance, so you need to book your project with enough time in advance. Planning your website’s timeline can also help you plan ahead. For example, you can raise expectations, create waiting lists, or start pre-orders based on your launch day. Depending on the complexity of the website, it can take weeks or months to create, and agencies charge extra rush fees if you need the website done sooner.
E.g. small & simple website:
For example, a simple, 1-5 page website for a small business created on Squarespace can take 2-4 weeks to create (including planning, research, stylescapes, SEO, etc.), and can cost you under $5,000 almost anywhere, from a freelancer to a small agency.
E.g. more complex website:
On the other hand, a very complex website requiring 10 wireframe templates, 50 individual pages, plus front and back end design and development on WordPress can take 3-6 months to develop (including strategy alignment, research, stylescapes, testing, SEO, copywriting, etc.) This kind of project is not usually taken on by freelancers at all, since the scope of the project is so large that it would take a single freelancer more than a year to complete, and freelancers don’t usually have all of the abilities required (from designing - to copywriting - to testing alignment with business strategy). A small agency could charge $20,000 - $50,000 for this type of project.
But of course, web design projects come in all shapes and sizes, which is why it’s important to ask around, find more than one designer to interview and inform yourself of the appropriate price range and realistic timetable for your specific website.
